Biography

Dr. Stephen Seamands is Professor Emeritus of Christian Doctrine at Asbury Theological Seminary, where he taught for 35 years before retiring in May 2018. Prior to his academic career, he pastored United Methodist churches in southern New Jersey for over a decade. Though retired, he continues to teach as an affiliate professor at Asbury, where he is known for blending classical theology with practical application, teaching with both a scholar's mind and a pastor's heart. With a deep passion for revival, awakening, and emotional healing, Dr. Seamands has been actively involved in ministries focused on spiritual warfare, intercessory prayer, and healing prayer for seminary students. Born in India to missionary parents, he brings a global perspective to his ministry and teaching. Dr. Seamands holds degrees from Asbury University (B.A.), Asbury Theological Seminary (M.Div.), Princeton Theological Seminary (Th.M.), and Drew University (Ph.D.). He is the author of eight books, including Wounds That Heal and Ministry in the Image of God, which received a 2006 Christianity Today "Award of Merit." His latest book, Follow the Healer, was published in 2023. Dr. Seamands and his wife, Carol, have been married for 54 years. They have four adult children and eight grandchildren.
