Zerahiah

ZERAHIAH (zĕr-a-hī'a, Heb. zerahyâh, the Lord is risen)

A Levite in the ancestry of Ezra (1Chr.6.6, 1Chr.6.51).A leader of two hundred men who returned with Ezra (Ezra.8.4).



ZERAHIAH zĕr’ ə hĭ’ ə (זְרַֽחְיָ֥ה, Jehovah has shown forth). 1. An ancestor of Ezra, of the line of Eleazar (Ezra 7:4); in 1 Esdras 8:2 (KJV, ASV; RSV omits) he is called Zaraias and in 2 Esdras 1:2 Arna.

2. The father of Eliehoenai, who returned from Babylon with Ezra (Ezra 8:4; 1 Esd 8:31 RSV; KJV, ASV ZARAIAS).

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia (1915)

(zerachyah, "Yahweh hath risen" or "come forth"; the Septuagint has Zaraia, with variants):

(1) A priest of the line of Eleazar (1Ch 6:6,51; Ezr 7:4).

(2) A head of a family, who returned with Ezra from Babylon (Ezr 8:4).
