FIFTH CENTURY. Bible commentator. A presbyter of Antioch, he compiled a Greek commentary on Mark from studies in Matthew, Luke, and John by earlier writers such as Origen, Titus of Bostra, Theodore of Mopsuestia, Chrysostom, and Cyril of Alexandria. The earliest extant commentary on Mark, it was very popular in the East, and survived in more than fifty codices of the gospels. Victor wrote also a commentary on Jeremiah.
