Vedast
vaast) (d.539. Bishop of Arras. Born possibly in W France, he came into contact with Clovis, the first Christian king of the Franks. Vedast accompanied Clovis* to Reims for the latter's baptism after his legendary conversion in a battle against the Alemanni. On the way Vedast is reputed to have cured a blind beggar by prayer and the sign of the cross. This miracle is reported to have confirmed Clovis in the Christian faith. Vedast became bishop of Arras in 499 and spent the remainder of his life restoring Christianity to that area.
