Twentieth Discourse of Cyril of Jerusalem

CYRIL OF JERUSALEM, TWENTIETH DISCOURSE OF. Cyril of Jerusalem (c. 315-386), Bishop of Jerusalem from 350-386, defender of the Nicene Creed against Arianism. Cyril was deposed from his position and reinstated on more than one occasion during the controversy. Finally, the Council of Constantinople (381) confirmed him in this office. He is the author of several homilies and tracts, but his most important work is Twenty-three Catecheses, the first real compend of the Christian faith. “Discourse Twenty” is an exposition of Romans 6:3-14 with particular emphasis upon the symbolism in the rite of baptism.
