Thousand
THOUSAND (Heb. eleph, Gr. chilioi). Frequently used hyperbolically for a very large but indefinite number, or as the division of a tribe (Num.31.5; Josh.22.14). The word was also used as a tribal subdivision known technically as “a father’s house” (Num.1.2, Num.1.4, Num.1.16; Judg.6.15; 1Sam.10.19, 1Sam.10.21).
