The King’s Dale

DALE, THE KING’s (עֵ֥מֶק הַמֶּֽלֶכְ). Where Abraham met the king of Sodom and Melchizedek (Gen 14:17, KJV KING’s DALE; ASV KING’s VALE; RSV KING’s VALLEY), and where Absalom erected a pillar to himself (2 Sam 18:18, RSV KING’s VALLEY). Josephus (Antiq. VII, x, 3) says it was two furlongs from Jerusalem.
