The Gershonites were assigned lands within the holdings of Issachar, Asher, and Naphtali in Pal. proper, and in the holdings of the half tribe of Manasseh in Trans-Jordan (Josh 21:6, 27-33; 1 Chron 6:62, 71-76; 1 Chron 6:1-43 uses “Gershom” for “Gershon”). This assignment of land placed the Gershonites in the northernmost extremes on both sides of the Jordan.
