Synod of Antwerp

1566. A clandestine conventicle held by the Reformed Church. Its chief importance was the adoption of a Latin recension of the [[Belgic Confession]]* as the Netherlandish statement of faith. This confession, originally composed in 1561 by Guido de Bres, pastor at Tournay, was revised for the synod by an Antwerp pastor, Francis Junius of Bourges, a pupil of Calvin, who later became professor at Leyden. This adoption marked the final acceptance of Calvinistic principles in the Netherlands.
