Sylvestrines
A minor monastic order following a rather Benedictine rule, stressing poverty, founded by Sylvester Gozzolini (1177-1267) in 1231. Centered in Italy except for a few houses in Portugal, Brazil, and Ceylon (where they have had a large mission since 1855), they have also a convent of nuns. The habit is blue, the abbot-general resides in the mother-house in Rome, and the constitutions of 1690 obtain, following the short- lived union with the Vallumbrosans* (1662-80).
