Sophereth

SOPHERETH, SOPHORETH (sō'fĕr-ĕth, Heb. sōphereth). One of Solomon’s servants who was among the captives to return to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel listed in Ezra.2.55 (kjv; niv “Hassophereth”) and Neh.7.57.



SOPHERETH sŏf’ ə rĕth (סוֹפֶ֖רֶת). The head of a family of Nethinim who returned from the Babylonian Exile with Zerubbabel (Neh 7:57; Ezra 2:55 KJV; ASV, RSV HASSOPHERETH; 1 Esd 5:33 KJV AZAPHION).

so-fe’-reth, sof’-e-reth, so’-fe-reth (cophereth): One of the remnant returning from captivity (Ezr 2:55 the King James Version; Ne 7:57). In the Revised Version (British and American) of Ezr 2:55 it is "Hassophereth," the definite article being transliterated.
