Shelah, Shelanite

SHELAH, SHELANITE (shē'la, Heb. shēlâh, Gr. Sala, Heb. shē‘la-nīt, sprout). 1. A son of Arphaxad and the father of Eber, he was one of the early Semites (Gen.10.24 Salah kjv; Luke.3.35 Sala kjv).

2. From another root meaning “a petition,” the third son of Judah (Gen.38.5-Gen.38.26). The Shelanites were named after him (Num.26.20).
