SHALLECHETH shăl’ ə kĕth (שַׁלֶּ֔כֶת). The name of a gate in the W part of the Temple enclosure in Jerusalem. A causeway went up to it (1 Chron 26:16). Some have supposed that the ashes and offal of the Temple were cast forth from it, but this is improbable, as they were thrown into the Kidron valley, which was to the E of the Temple.
