SHAAPH (shā'ăf, Heb. sha‘aph, meaning uncertain)

The sixth in a list of sons of Jahdai (1Chr.2.47).A descendant scion of Caleb by Maachah, a concubine. This man became the progenitor of the inhabitants of Madmannah (1Chr.2.49; cf. Josh.15.31).



SHAAPH shā’ ăf (שָֽׁעַף). 1. The sixth son of Jahdai (1 Chron 2:47).

2. A son of Caleb and his concubine Maacah; the “father” of Madmannah, in S Judah (1 Chron 2:49).

(sha`aph):

(1) A son of Jahdai (1Ch 2:47).

(2) The son of Maachah, a concubine of Caleb, the brother of Jerahmeel. Shaaph is called the "father," or founder, of the city Madmannah (1Ch 2:48 f).
