Sayings of Jesus
This term is used to denote either the extracanonical sayings of Jesus (“Agrapha”) or collected sayings of Jesus (“Logia”) supposedly in “Q,” the Gospel of Thomas,* and other writings. The Oxyrhynchus* discoveries (papyri I, 654, 655 and 840) are examples of collected sayings of Jesus. Recent scholarship indicates that the Oxyrhynchus collections are based upon the Gospel of Thomas.
