d. c.375. Elder brother of Ambrose,* whose household and property he managed. Ambrose preached his funeral oration (De Excessu Fratris), paying warm tribute to one who passed on an “undivided patrimony...neither distributed nor diminished but preserved” with Ambrose and his sister as “stewards, not heirs.”
