Sabas
439-532. Founder of the Order of Sabaites. Born in Cappadocia, he entered a monastery at the age of eight. In 457 he went to Jerusalem and lived as a hermit monk in the desert. He became renowned for his holiness, and founded a number of monasteries. He was ordained into the priesthood in 490, and in the later years of his life was an active defender of the orthodox faith against Origenism* and Monophysitism.*
