PICTURES. The word occurs three times in the KJV. In Num.33.52, ASV and RSV have “figured stones,” NIV “carved images.” In Prov.25.11, ASV has “network,” RSV and NIV “setting,” an apparent reference to pleasing inlaid work in gold and silver. In Isa.2.16 another word from the same Hebrew root is translated “imagery” in ASV. RSV has “beautiful craft.” NIV reads “stately vessel.” The carved figureheads of ships, usually idolatrous symbols, may be intended. The Hebrew root suggests something conspicuous or showy.
