Parched Ground
PARCHED GROUND (Heb. shārāv, a mirage). The ERV uses “glowing” instead of “parched” in this phrase in Isa.35.7, referring doubtless to the strange movement of air just above dry, hot earth accompanied by mirages. The word here may be rendered “looming sand-waste,” which is the Arabic name for mirage, but NIV prefers “thirsty ground.”
