Palestinian Syriac Text of the New Testament

An Aramaic version used by Palestinian Christians and now preserved mainly in lectionaries; only the modified Estrangelo script may properly be called Syriac. It was begun about the beginning of the fifth century to meet the needs of Christians whose liturgy had been in Greek; alternatively, it may have originated with the secession of the Malkites from the Monophysite Syrian Church after the christological controversies of the fifth century. The version is independent of the Syriac translations identified with Edessa. Its underlying Greek text is of the Lucianic type, but it preserves many non-Byzantine variants; the influence of the Peshitta is often perceptible.
