Offset
OFFSET (מִגְרָעוֹת, H4492). This is tr. “narrowed rests” in KJV.
The Heb. word is found only once in the OT (1 Kings 6:6). The passage reads: “For around the outside of the house he made offsets on the wall in order that the supporting beams should not be inserted into the walls of the house.” This is a part of the description of the building of Solomon’s Temple. The LXX gives a similar picture for the temple of Ezekiel’s vision (Ezek 41:6, 7 RSV).
