Notker
c.940-1008. Bishop of Liège. Nephew of Emperor Otto I, Notker was born in Swabia. After entering monastic life at St. Gall in Switzerland he was named imperial chaplain in Italy in 969. Appointed bishop of Liège in Flanders in 972, he was an effective administrator. He played an important role in establishing the famous Liège schools, had a broad influence on monastic reform and educational affairs, and served in governmental posts under Otto III and Henry II.
