Niger
NIGER (nī'jêr, Gr. Niger, black). A surname of Simeon, one of the five “prophets and teachers” of the church at Antioch who were led of the Lord to send Paul and Barnabas on the first missionary journey (Acts.13.1-Acts.13.3). Probably a Hebrew Christian from North Africa.
NIGER nī’ gər (Νίγερ, G3769, from Lat., black). The surname of Symeon, one of the prophets and teachers in the church of Antioch (Acts 13:1). He may be the same as Simon of Cyrene (Mark 15:21 and parallels). Nothing further is known about him.
