Nicomedes
Early Christian martyr. The date and circumstances of his death are unknown. He is mentioned in the Roman Martyrology (the official record of the Roman Catholic Church) issued in 1584, but omitted from the Hieronymian Martyrology (compiled in the fifth century). Moreover, there is mention in the fifth century of a titular church at Rome dedicated to him. The Book of Common Prayer, listing his feast day as 1 June, spells his name “Nicomede.”
