Michel Le Quien

1661-1733. French Dominican scholar. Librarian of Saint-Honoré, Paris, he wrote Défense du texte hébreu et de la version Vulgate (1690) and Panoplia contra schisma Graecorum (1718), taking issue with Patriarch Nectarius of Jerusalem on papal primacy. His posthumous Oriens Christianus (3 vols., 1740) treats Eastern Church history. He was responsible also for the still standard though incomplete edition of John Damascene's Opera omnia (2 vols., 1712). Unfinished too was an edition of Opera omnia Leontii Byzantini. He wrote two major works concerning the validity of Anglican orders.
