METHU SHAEL (mē-thū’shā'ĕl). Father of Lamech in the line of Cain before the Flood (Gen.4.18).

METHUSHAEL mĭ thōō’ shĭ əl (מְת֣וּשָׁאֵ֔ל). A descendant of Cain, and father of Lamech (Gen 4:18, KJV METHUSAEL).

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia (1915)

A descendant of Cain, and father of Lamech in the Cainite genealogy (Ge 4:18). The meaning of the name is doubtful. Dillmann suggested "suppliant or man of God."
