Mesaloth

MESALOTH mĕs’ ə lŏth (Μεσσαλώθ; Μαισαλώθ). A place in Arbela captured by Bacchides and Alcimus in their march on Judah (1 Macc 9:2; KJV MASALOTH). Its site is unknown.

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia (1915)

A place mentioned in the account of the march of Bacchides and Alcimus into Judah, as "in Arbela" (1 Macc 9:2). If Arbela be identical with Irbil or Irbid on the southern lip of Wady el-Chamam, West of the Sea of Galilee, this fixes the locality; but no name resembling Mesaloth has been found.
