Marcheshvan

MARCHESHVAN mär kĕsh’ văn (מַרְחֶשְׁוָן). The Heb. form of the Babylonian name Arahsamna (eighth month). It corresponds to the Macedonian Dios (October-November). Biblical months were distinguished by the Israelites first by old Canaanite names, then by numbers, and finally, after the Exile, by Babylonian names. Marcheshvan is not found in the OT.
