Manassites

MANASSITES (ma-năs'īts, Heb. menashshî, forgetting). Descendants of the oldest son of Joseph (Gen.41.51). This was a tribe of noble standing, which Gilead, under Jephthah, delivered from the Ephraimites by the password “Shibboleth” (Judg.12.4-Judg.12.6). Moses gave them a city of refuge in Bashan (Deut.4.41-Deut.4.43). Because of evil under Jehu, God cause the Manassites to be cut off (2Kgs.10.31-2Kgs.10.33).
