Kenizzite

KENIZZITE (kē'nĭz-īt, Heb. qenizzî). A family name derived from Kenaz. One of the ten tribes of Canaan in the days of Abram, mentioned only in Gen.15.19. No one knows who was the “Kenaz” from whom these Kenizzites were descended; and the tribe disappears from history with this mention. Some think that the Edomite tribe descended from Kenaz, grandson of Esau (Gen.36.11, Gen.36.15), united at least in part with Israel because Caleb of the tribe of Judah (Josh.14.6, Josh.14.14) is called the “son” of Jephunneh the Kenizzite.
