Kartan

KARTAN (kar'tăn, Heb. qartān). A city in Naphtali given to the Gershonite Levites in Joshua’s time (Josh.21.32). Copied in 1Chr.6.76 as Kiriathaim (kjv Kirjathaim), which means the same.

KARTAN kär’ tăn (קַרְתָּ֖ן). A Levitical town in Naphtali (Josh 21:32). The parallel passage, 1 Chronicles 6:76, has Kiriathaim. It is perhaps to be identified with Khirbet el-Qureiyeh in Upper Galilee.

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia (1915)

A city in the territory of Naphtali, given to the Gershonite Levites (Jos 21:32). It is called Kiriathaim in 1Ch 6:76. Kartan may be a contraction of this. Cheyne (EB, under the word) suggests that both names may be corruptions from "Chinnereth." Neither is mentioned in Jos 19:32,38, in the list of Naphtalite cities, while Chinnereth is.
