ITALIAN REGIMENT. A cohort of volunteer Roman soldiers recruited in Italy and stationed in Caesarea when Peter preached the gospel to Cornelius, who was a centurion in it (Acts.10.1). It consisted mostly of Italians who could not find service in the Praetorian Guard.
