I.N.R.I. The initials of the Latin superscription that Pilate had placed above the cross of Jesus in three languages (Greek, Hebrew, Latin). The Latin reads: Iesus Nazarenus, Rex Iudaerum, “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews” (Matt.27.37; Mark.15.26; Luke.23.38; John.19.19).
