Hotham

HOTHAM, HOTHAN (hō'thăm, hō'thăn)

A son of Heber, of the family of Beriah. He was an Asherite (1Chr.7.32). He is called “Helem” in 1Chr.7.35.An Aroerite, whose two sons Shama and Jeiel were among David’s heroes (1Chr.11.44).

HOTHAM, HOTHAN hō’ thăm, -ăn (חוֹתָ֑ם). 1. A member of the tribe of Asher in the genealogies given by the author of Chronicles (1 Chron 7:32). It is not clear whether the Helem given in v. 35 is the same person.

2. A man from Aroer, the father of Shama and Jeiel, two of David’s mighty men (1 Chron 11:44). KJV gives Hothan here, following LXX.

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia (1915)

ho’-tham, ho’-than (chotham, "seal"):

(1) An Asherite, son of Heber, family of Beriah (1Ch 7:32).

(2) An Aroerite, father of two of the mighty men of David (1Ch 11:44). the King James Version, following Septuagint Chothan, has, incorrectly, Hothan.
