Holy Array
ARRAY, HOLY (הַדְרַת־קֹֽדֶשׁ). A phrase used four times in the ASV and RSV OT, but in each case the KJV has BEAUTY OF HOLINESS (1 Chron 16:29; 2 Chron 20:21; Pss 29:2; 96:9). It was used always in connection with the public worship of Jehovah and seemed to mean that in such worship it was necessary that the priests dress in proper attire. For such an occasion only dress that would honor Jehovah would be suitable; anything else would dishonor Him. Some have suggested that it is Jehovah who is in holy array, or clothed with the beauty of holiness, not the worshipers.
