Henrietta Feller

1800-1868. Missionary and educator. A Protestant from Switzerland, she arrived in St. Johns, Quebec, in 1835, and began spreading the Gospel from house to house. In Grande Ligne she and her colleague Louis Roussy found a home to receive them, and Madame Feller began a school in the attic for local children. During the Rebellion of 1837 the two missionaries and their sixty-three converts were persecuted for being Protestants and forced to flee to New York. When peace was restored they returned, and in 1840 they erected the first building of what was to be Feller College. Henrietta was instrumental in founding the Grande Ligne Mission in 1836, the first Canadian French Baptist Church.
