HELEZ (hē'lĕz)

A man of Judah, of the family of Hezron, but also of Egyptian descent (1Chr.2.39).One of David’s mighty leaders, called a Paltite in 2Sam.23.26, but a Pelonite in 1Chr.11.27; an Ephraimite (1Chr.27.10).



HELEZ he’ lĕz (֚חֶלֶץ). 1. One of David’s mighty men (2 Sam 23:26; 1 Chron 11:27). Called a “Paltite” in 2 Samuel 23:26, but a “Pelonite” in 1 Chronicles 11:27. The second is prob. correct.

2. The head of the 7th course at the time of David (1 Chron 27:10). He is also called a “Pelonite,” and is usually identified with the preceding.

3. A family of the tribe of Judah (1 Chron 2:39); of the clan of the Jerahmeelites.

(1) 2Sa 23:26; 1Ch 11:27; 27:10. One of David’s mighty men; according to 1Ch 27:10, he belonged to the sons of Ephraim and was at the head of the 7th course in David’s organization of the kingdom.

(2) Septuagint Chelles, 1Ch 2:39. A man of Judah of the clan of the Jerahmeelites.
