Hart
HART härt (אַיָּל, H385, hart, all Eng. VSS, but Song of Solomon, 17; 8:14 RSV trs. young stag). Hart is now a semitechnical term for the male of some deer, usually Red Deer, esp. after the fifth year. It seems agreed that this is correctly tr. “hart”; also that it prob. applies generally to the three kinds once found in Pal. (Deut 12:15, 22; 14:5; 15:22). The female, usually from third year, is known as hind. See Deer for fuller discussion.
