Harbona
HARBONA, HARBONAH (har-bō'na, Heb. harevônā’, harevônâh, ass driver). One of the seven chamberlains of Xerxes (kjv Ahasuerus), king of Persia (Esth.1.10; Esth.7.9).
HARBONA här bō’ nə (חַרְבוֹנָ֜א). KJV, ASV HARBONAH. One of the seven eunuchs who served as chamberlains for Ahasuerus. The king commanded him to bring Queen Vashti before him (Esth 1:10), and it was he who suggested that Haman be hanged on the same gallows that Haman had erected for Mordecai (Esth 7:9).
International Standard Bible Encyclopedia (1915)
One of the seven eunuchs who served Ahasuerus and to whom was given the command to bring Queen Esther before the king (Es 1:10). It was he who suggested that Haman be hanged upon the self-same gallows that he had erected for Mordecai (Es 7:9). Jewish tradition has it that Harbona had originally been a confederate of Haman, but, upon noting the failure of the latter’s plans, abandoned him. The Persian equivalent of the name means "donkey-driver."
