FLAGON. This word is used in the KJV to tr. Heb. אֲשִׁישָׁ֖ה (2 Sam 6:19; 1 Chron 16:3; Song of Solomon; Hos 3:1.) The RSV, ASV and all modern trs. have understood it correctly as a pressed cake of raisins. The Eng. word “flagon” is also used by modern Eng. trs. along with other words such as “jar, pitcher, pot,” etc., to represent several Heb. words of similar meaning without any agreement or uniformity.
