A cooperative mass evangelistic effort. It originated in [[Latin America]] and later extended in different forms to other parts of the world. It was started by R.K. Strachan* of the Latin America Mission. After some years of study and observation of apparently successful movements, he developed the theorem: “The growth of any movement is in direct proportion to the success of that movement in mobilizing its total membership in the constant propagation of its beliefs.” Basically E/D attempts to make a Christian impact on a single country in an all-out, yearlong campaign that mobilizes the whole Christian constituency of that country under local leadership. Local committees make preparations, organizing multitudes of neighborhood prayer-cells and programs of visitation, and setting up training classes for witnesses. Communitywide evangelistic services culminate in a great rally and parade in a principal city for maximum impact on the country. The first campaign in Nicaragua (1960) was followed by numerous others.
