EPIPHI ĕp’ ĭ fī (̓Επιφί). Eleventh month of the Egyp. year, June 25-July 24. According to 3 Maccabees the Jews in Egypt were registered (in order to be destroyed) under the Egyp. monarch, Ptolemy IV Philopator (221-203 b.c.) during the forty days from the twenty-fifth of Pachon (April 26-May 25) to the fourth of Epiphi. Preparations for their destruction lasted from the fifth to the seventh of Epiphi (3 Macc 6:38). The Jews were spared through a series of miraculous events.
