Emites

EMITES (ē'mīts, Heb. ’êmîm; kjv, Emim). The original inhabitants of Moab (Deut.2.10-Deut.2.11). They were a great people—powerful, of advanced civilization, and numerous. They were also tall of stature, so that they were, like the Anakim, called giants. Out of harsh experience, the Moabites called them “Terrors,” the meaning of Hebrew ‘êmîm. In Abraham’s time they were defeated by the Mesopotamian invaders in [[Shaveh Kiriathaim]] (Gen.14.5), a plain east of the Dead Sea.
