Eminence

From a root (eminere) expressive of loftiness or prominence in a physical sense, an ecclesiastical title of honor was derived. It was limited by [[Urban VIII]] in 1630 to the grand master of the order of Malta, the three archiepiscopal electors of the [[Holy Roman Empire]], and the cardinals in general-which latter usage alone has survived.
