Elidad

ELIDAD (ē-lī'dăd). A prince of the tribe of Benjamin and a member of the commission in the division of Canaan (Num.34.21).

ELIDAD ĭ lī’ dăd (אֱלִידָ֖ד, God has loved). The son of Chislon from the tribe of Benjamin (Num 34:21). He was one chosen by God to divide the land of Canaan on the W side of the Jordan for the inheritance of the ten tribes. Eleazar, the priest, and Joshua, the son of Nun, were to oversee the work. He is perhaps the same as the Eldad of Numbers 11:26ff. who together with Medad prophesied in the camp of Israel. When Joshua asked Moses to forbid them to prophesy, Moses refused and said that he wished all of the Lord’s people were prophets.
