Ebal or Obal

EBAL or OBAL, Heb. עֵיבָ֑ל, variant, עוֹבָ֥ל, a name of (1) several characters in the OT, descended from Hurrian or Edomite parentage (Gen 36:23); a son of Shobal (1 Chron 1:40); a son of Joktan (Gen 10:28; 1 Chron 1:22). (2) Name of a mountain in Ephraim, “the mount of cursing” (Deut 11:29; et al.). The term is of foreign origin.
