Dom; Don

This shortened form of the Latin dominus, which itself conveyed a range of titular meanings from “Lord” in the abstract to “owner, possessor” in the common-all based on etymological derivation from Indo-European words-was a result of linguistic process among the Romance family of languages. Within general usage it identifies a nobleman; within the church it entitles ordered monks or canons regular.
