Early Methodist preacher who visited regularly on horseback a number of appointments. Typically poor, single, young, and uneducated, he lived with the people he served. Developed by Wesley, the itineracy was perfected on the American frontier, where it greatly contributed to the advance of Methodism under the leadership of Francis Asbury.*
