1866-1960. Presbyterian minister. Graduate of Princeton, he was ordained in 1891 and held two pastorates in Pennsylvania (1890-1905). He was then professor of practical theology in Princeton Seminary, simultaneously pastor of First Church (1924-34), and was moderator of assembly in 1925, and president of the Board of Foreign Missions (1928- 40). Balancing academic with keen pastoral concern, Erdman was a popular preacher who aided the Bible Conference Movement.
