Chantry

(Lat. capellania). The aisle of a church, or part of an aisle, set apart for the offering of Mass for the benefit of the founder or some other holy person. The name was used also for the institution and endowment of such a service. All chantries in Britain were dissolved by Acts in 1545 and 1547.
